MY SKIN'S TIRED! PDF Print E-mail

Q: I’m only in my early forties but already my skin’s beginning to look a little tired. Are there any dietary supplements can help?

A: Hannah Dare from Organico says,
If it’s an anti-ageing pill you’re after then no, sadly, you’re out of luck!

There is however a nutritional substance that might help to combat the signs of ageing and I guarantee you will have heard of it before.

Collagen! It’s certainly no stranger to the beauty world, and for good reason.

A major structural protein, collagen plays a crucial role in supporting cells, tissues and organs.

It also makes up approximately 75% of the dermis, the layer beneath the skin’s surface, giving skin strength and durability and ultimately the smooth, plump appearance we associate with young, healthy skin.

However as we age our collagen levels start to decline.

Most experts believe we lose around 1.5% of our body’s collagen from the age of 25-35 which in turn leads to decreased elasticity and tone and eventually the formation of lines and wrinkles.

But it’s not all doom and gloom!

Some experts believe that collagen supplements containing two of the major amino acids found in collagen, hydroxyproline and proline, can help to nourish and support the collagen layers of the skin.

While there are several collagen supplements to choose from, the Active Marine Collagen Drink from Higher Nature’s Aeterna Gold range is an excellent new development, because most of us would rather drink something tasty than take tablets!

As well as pure marine (non-shark) collagen, the drink also provides hyaluronic acid and vitamin C for additional skin support.

Vitamin C helps the body form collagen and hyaluronic acid sometimes called “nature’s moisturiser” helps the skin retain moisture by attracting up to 1000 times its own weight in water to keep skin moist and soft.

Alternatively you may wish to try the Aeterna Gold Collagen Crème Serum, with pure marine (non-shark) collagen, MSM, hyaluronic acid and plant extracts to help plump the skin and smooth the appearance of wrinkles.

Collagen does its restructuring work best at night, but Crème Serum can be applied day and night, 10 minutes before you apply your usual moisturiser.
