WEST CORK LITERARY FESTIVAL CALENDAR OF EVENTS Sunday 6th July • Opening of exhibition of Literary Festival photographs by John Minihan entitled Ten Years On in Bantry Library at 17:30. • The tenth West Cork Literary Festival will be officially opened in Bantry Library at 18:00. All are welcome. • Bedtime story reading in the Maritime Hotel at 22:45. A nightly story, followed by open mike for music, poetry and readings. Monday 7th July • Short story reading by Selma Dabbagh at 11:00 in Bantry Bookshop. • A reading by author Kevin Barry at 13:00 in Bantry Library. • Did it happen or did I invent it? A memoir writing seminar led by Christopher Fitz-Simon in the Maritime Hotel at 14:30. • A Children’s reading by author Ann Kelley in St Brendan’s School at 14:30. • The 2008 Fish Anthology Launch and Awards ceremony in the Maritime Hotel at 17:00. • An evening with author Joseph O’Connor in the Maritime Hotel at 20:30. • Bedtime Story: read by Michael Collins in the Bantry Bay Hotel at 22:45. Tuesday 8th July • Short story reading by Julia Van Middlesworth, the winner of this year’s International Fish Short Story Prize in Bantry Bookshop at 11:00. • Lunchtime reading by Carlo Gébler in Bantry Library at 13:00. • An afternoon seminar which discusses the Influence of Spirituality in Creativity will be directed by John Waters and Michael McCarthy in the Maritime Hotel at 14:30. • A children’s reading by Marita Conlon-McKenna will take place in St Brendan’s’ School at 14:30. • Afternoon reading by Elise Blackwell and David Bajo at 17:00 in Bantry Library. • The Festival Club micro-fiction competition kicks off in Organico Café, Glengarriff Road at 18:30. • Morse and Me: an evening with Inspector Morse author Colin Dexter in the Maritime Hotel at 20:30 • Bedtime Story: read by Alex Barclay in the Maritime Hotel at 22:45. |

OPEN GARDEN FOR CHARITY By kind invitation of Alison McCoy (with Kilmocomogue Mothers Union), her garden in Ardanairy, Durrus, is holding a charity Open Day on Sunday afternoon, July 20th from 2 pm - 5 pm. Ardanairy is situated just outside Durrus village just off the Ahakista road. It will be signposted. A raffle and plant sales will take place while teas will also be served. All proceeds are going to CoAction West Cork and everybody is very welcome. |

BUDWEISER BARBECUE FESTIVAL IS ON AGAIN! 
Once again, the Bantry Barbecue Festival committee are happy to announce a full weekend of music, food and entertainment from Friday 1st August to Monday 4th August. Raffle tickets will be on sale to help upgrade the existing festival and also to help the Bantry Red Cross, who this year is our main benefactor. So please support us! On the Sunday we will have our raft race again. Anyone interested in entering a raft, please contact Mary in Ma Murphy’s before the 24th July. During the weekend there will be free barbecues and music in the pubs. A great weekend for all the family! |
