Bantry Credit Union Third-Level Education Scholarship 2008

Each September Bantry Credit Union awards one scholarship to a person entering third-level education for the first time. The scholarship is worth €1,500 a year for up to a maximum of four years to the lucky recipient, making it one of the most attractive such schemes in operation.

In order to apply, a person must satisfy certain conditions, the first of which is that either the applicant or a parent of the applicant must have been a member of good standing of Bantry Credit Union as at 1 January 2008.

A copy of the complete rules and procedures governing the scholarship scheme and application forms will be available from Bantry Credit Union’s office at Wolfe Tone Square from the start of August.

The closing date for receipt of completed application forms is Tuesday, 26 August, which is one week after the issuing of First Round offers by the CAO. Anyone wishing to discuss the scheme can contact Finbarr O'Shea at the credit union (tel. 027-50535).

For the record … past winners of the scholarship are:
• 2003 – Denise Daly from Clash, Kilcrohane. Graduated from UCC with an Honours Degree in Law and Irish in 2007. Now pursuing a Masters Degree in Environmental Law at University College London.
• 2004 – Caroline Coppinger from Bantry. Graduated from UCC this year with an Honours BSc Degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Now working with the West Cork Mental Health Services in Bantry and Skibbereen.
• 2005 – Michelle Ward from Durrus. Is spending this summer working in a firm of Actuaries in Cork and in September will be going into the fourth and final year of her Degree in Mathematical Sciences at UCC.
• 2006 – Alice O’Grady from Ardnageehy, Bantry. Has completed two years of her studies on the BEd Degree in Primary Teaching at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick.
• 2007 – Anne O’Grady from Derryginagh East, Bantry. Has completed the first year of her BA Degree studies at UCC and from September will be concentrating on Maths and Irish for the rest of her degree programme.
